What
is a dojo? The dojo (dojang) is a space
to gather for inner collection. It refers to a room where young and
old, male and female students come together, regardless of race or
religion, in order to practice taekwondo. In the dojo or school, students
further and improve the art itself, as well as their own physical,
psychological and aesthetic abilities. Prerequisite for reaching that
goal is guidance by Chief Instructor Fred Riley, who is well schooled,
both mentally and physically. Choosing the right martial arts school is sometimes more important than choosing the right martial art. Pick a bad school, and you could be so turned off that you don't bother trying any other martial art at all. To say that kids today have a lot of choices is a huge understatement. The important question is, are the choices they are making good ones? Positive growth is the direct result of a healthy, vigorous lifestyle. That means getting the kid off the couch. Martial arts as we teach it is one of the best activities a family can provide for its children and the family unit. Throught the excitement of our dynamic program, children are aught how to make good choices. They are provided excellent role models. Best of all, they can become active in the game instead of playing it on a television. At the AMA we pride ourselves with running a family oriented dojo, where our students become extended members of each instructor's family. Our motto is "Punching & Kicking but...so much more. The "so much more is HONOR, POSITIVE ATTITUDE, COMMITMENT, RESPECT, EXCELLENCE, and, of course, PRIDE. All students are required to bring report cards in for review each grading period. The parent, the student, and Sensei Riley, will have a consultation and look for areas to improve, and they will also receive praises and recognition for academic excellence. We teach anger management and non-violent conflict resolution, and we also develop vital skills of concentration and focus as we build confidence and self-esteem.
